MSc Laboratory Medicine

The 5-year Master of Science in Laboratory Medicine program is offered by the Faculty of Pharmacy. This offer is tailored especially for candidates whose area of interest revolves around medicine but are not necessarily interested in becoming a physician or a pharmacist.

Laboratory medicine is an interdisciplinary field which covers thorough specialist knowledge in the scope of medical and biological sciences. It prepares future diagnosticians to cooperate with physicians, pharmacists and other medical specialists by offering laboratory services in haematology, biochemistry, bacteriology, cytology, pathomorphology, serology, immunopathology, and suchlike. The acquired knowledge and practical skills allow to conduct laboratory tests using the latest technology as well as to interpret and authorise the obtained results.

Graduates of the laboratory medicine program can pursue their career in public and non-public diagnostic laboratories, various entities within the health care sector, or scientific and research institutes. They may also decide to set up private companies offering medical diagnostic services or continue their academic career through doctoral studies. The completed laboratory medicine program branches into numerous specialisations, such as microbiology, transfusion medicine, medical genetics or toxicology.
